Fifth Avenue - Color in Continuity
Color creates a sense of continuity throughout this modern Manhattan apartment. Paired tones animate individual walls, while complementary hues establish a dialogue between visually connected spaces. Custom details extend the palette into the architecture, shaping how each room is experienced.
CHALLENGE
Give connected spaces distinct identities while maintaining a cohesive whole. With multiple rooms visible at once, each color needed to work both within its immediate surroundings and in relation to the spaces beyond.
PROCESS
We developed the palette through paint and fabric studies, coordinating subtle tonal pairings with moments of stronger contrast. Drawings explored the relationship between color, furnishings and custom shelving. Across the apartment, horizontal color divisions, curved compositions and an accent wrapping a ceiling corner introduced different ways of perceiving the architectural surfaces.
OUTCOME
A sequence of distinct yet related spaces, unified through color. Tonal shifts bring depth to individual walls, while recurring accents connect details across rooms. The project is presented through selected site photographs and design studies in respect of the client’s privacy.
