Southampton Table

A custom table that uses material transformation to deliberately complicate the relationship between form, construction, and appearance.
CHALLENGE
To create an exaggerated turned-leg profile with the visual weight and reflective character of polished metal without fabricating the legs as conventional metal components.
PROCESS
The legs were fabricated in wood using traditional woodworking techniques, then sent to an automotive finishing shop to receive a highly reflective chrome finish. The process transformed a familiar wooden form into something that visually reads as metal.
OUTCOME
A piece whose identity depends on the tension between what it appears to be and how it was actually made—traditional wooden fabrication producing an unexpectedly industrial object.
