Patricia Field Chandelier

A custom chandelier created for Patricia Field from a collection of lanterns she had accumulated over many years of travel.

CHALLENGE

Patricia had collected an assortment of lanterns over time and asked simply to “do something with them.” The challenge was to transform a disparate collection of existing objects into a single lighting piece while preserving the individuality and history of the lanterns themselves.

PROCESS

The lanterns were treated as found components rather than raw material to be standardized. Through composition, suspension, scale, and light, the individual pieces were assembled into a larger object whose character comes from the differences between its parts.

OUTCOME

A singular chandelier that gives a new collective life to objects accumulated over time—turning Patricia’s collection into a functional centerpiece without erasing the identity of the individual lanterns.
