Cruise Ship - Blue Sky
A Blue Sky exercise developed during concept work for a Cruise Ship, using deliberately unconstrained ideation to break a creative stalemate and reopen the range of possible solutions.
CHALLENGE
The design team had reached a point where conventional problem-solving was no longer producing meaningful new directions.
PROCESS
Blue Sky temporarily suspended the requirement that ideas be reasonable, feasible, affordable, relevant—or even good. Narrative, collage, humor, unlikely associations, and deliberately excessive propositions were used to generate movement before critical evaluation and practical constraints were reintroduced.
OUTCOME
The exercise demonstrates an approach to early-stage design in which expanding the field of possibility becomes a deliberate tool for getting beyond predictable solutions.
